Jumer’s Casino & Hotel has a long history intrinsic to Rock Island and all of Chicagoland.
It all started with D. James Jumer’s restaurant and hotel businesses in the 1960s. In 1988, Jumer constructed the Peoria Boatworks Complex that included a boat with a capacity of 400 visitors. Then, in 1991, riverboat casinos began operating in the Quad Cities, and a year after, the Rock Island Boatworks, featuring Casino Rock Island and owned by D. James Jumer, was in business.
In 2008, Jumer opened a new facility and rebranded Casino Rock Island into Jumer’s Casino & Hotel. In 2011, the casino was sold to Delaware North Companies, a hospitality and food-service entity that is also the owner of Boston’s TD Garden and other important sporting venues.
In October 2020, Delaware North announced that Jumer’s Casino & Hotel was sold to Twin River Worldwide Holdings in a $120 million deal. The deal is expected to close in the second quarter of 2021, following regulatory procedures. After acquiring Jumer’s Casino & Hotel, Twin River Worldwide Holdings is now in possession of 13 casinos across nine states.
The acquisition also brings the possibility of sports betting to Jumer’s Casino and Hotel in Quad Cities. Namely, the CEO of Twin River, George Papanier, mentioned a possible expansion into the sports betting market by partnering with some of the industry’s leading operators.
