Global Poker is a legal online social poker site. It operates on a patented sweepstakes model in which it is legal to award cash prizes to poker players from every state except for Washington state.
The site uses two social currencies, or virtual chips, to play games and enter tournaments. Gold Coins have no value and winnings from Gold Coins games cannot be redeemed for cash prizes. Global Poker also gives away sweepstakes entries called Sweeps Coins. Winnings from games played with Sweeps Coins can be redeemed for cash prizes.
Sweeps Coins cannot be purchased, they are always given away free. The key point here is that you can purchase Gold Coin packages, which come bundled with a significant number of free bonus Sweeps Coins.
There are several ways you can get free Sweeps Coins. As a new player, you’ll also qualify for Global Poker’s welcome bonus, when you use our links to sign up for an account.
No promo code is needed to reap the benefits from Global’s free, $20 value Gold Coins package. It includes 100,000 Gold Coins and a bonus of 20 Sweeps Coins. It includes 200,000 Gold Coins and a bonus of 40 Sweeps Coins, for the special price of $20.

Global Poker holds several Gold Coins/Sweeps Coins giveaways that are smaller in size than the reload and rakeback promotions you will find on typical online poker sites. Even so, every little bit helps; you may as well take advantage of them.
Global Poker’s Challenges offer the highest Sweeps Coins rewards and include the following:
You’ll get free Sweeps Coins and Gold Coins just for logging in to your account in the “Daily Bonus.”
Click on the “Get Coins” button in the top-right corner. A pop-up window will open and show the selection of Gold Coin packages you can purchase. At the bottom of the window are seven daily bonus boxes. The number of Gold Coins and Sweeps Coins you can receive will get higher the more consecutive days you log into your Global Poker account.
Sweeps Coins giveaway contests on Global’s Facebook page typically award five Sweeps Coins for participating and winning a simple contest. To enter, follow the directions on the relevant post.
Global also offers several achievements to complete that are rewarded with entry into Gold Coins freeroll tournaments and additional opportunities to earn extra Gold Coins.
Global Poker is legal in Illinois. As long as you are at least 18 years old, you can open a new account directly with Global Poker or use your Facebook account. Just use our links to visit the site, click on the white “Register” button in the top right of the screen and follow the prompts.
Note that your password must be at least eight characters and include three of the following: lowercase, uppercase, special characters and numbers.
You will want to choose your screen name carefully because you won’t be able to change it after you register.
You will have to verify your account if you plan to redeem prizes. If you want to collect your free $20 Gold Coins package welcome bonus (100,000 Gold Coins plus 20 Sweeps Coins), you’ll want to go through the process as soon as possible.
Click on the red “X” next to the “Account” tab, then click “Verify My Account,” click “Start” and follow the prompts. You will be asked to email a photo of your driver’s license or passport, a recent photo of yourself (can be a selfie), and a bank statement to verify your address (Global will need a bank statement for redemptions, too).
Player support will usually complete the verification review within 24 hours. You can reach out to [email protected] if you need help.
Global Poker has been in operation since 2016, is licensed by the prestigious Malta Gaming Authority, and its online poker room traffic is statistically one of the highest in the country.
There’s no doubt that Global’s sweepstakes model is different from other online poker rooms, and the Gold Coins/Sweeps Coins sweepstakes system definitely can be confusing.
However, the bottom line is that the system works. The odds are good that you’ll catch on pretty quickly and find yourself warming to the site once you start playing — and winning.
To satisfy requirements for legal sweepstakes sites, Global Poker gives away Sweeps Coins, or sweepstakes entries, which can be redeemed for cash prizes when won as a prize playing poker, considered to be a game of chance.
Gold Coins are virtual chips or play money, which are no different from what you’ll find on any social casino. You can use them to play Global Poker games for fun. And you also can get more of them by purchasing Gold Coins packages, which come bundled with free Sweeps Coins.
It’s worth noting that you can also get a free bonus of five Sweeps Coins every time you send Global Poker a letter via the US Postal Service asking for them, up to one request a day. The rules for mail requests are very specific, so you’ll want to review the FAQ and terms and conditions before you invest in a stamp.
Global Poker is completely browser-based for both desktop PC or Mac laptops and Android or Apple iOS devices. No download is necessary to operate the poker client, which loads quickly.
The in-house developed platform is simple, straightforward and easy enough to use for even the newest players to grasp quickly.
The Lobby opens to “Ring Games” by default, but tables also can be sorted by type (SNG, MTT and Jackpot SNG), format (Hold’em, Omaha, Crazy Pineapple) and stakes (micro, low, medium, high). You can eliminate full tables from view, and filter games by limits, blinds and seats available.
The MTT lobby includes sortable statistics, players left, chip stacks average and payouts that are all in an easy-to-understand format.
To join a game, just click on the table’s name. A new screen will open and offer you any available empty seats. You will find several options inside the games, including a chat client, your hand history and table settings.
To view your account details, click on the drop-down menu in the top corner of the Sweeps Coins screen. The left-side menu includes the following sections:
To return to the lobby, click on the home icon in the upper-left corner.
Whether you’re an experienced or recreational player, you will likely be able to find a table with stakes that will suit you in one of Global Poker’s ring games or tournaments.
The site maintains a steady flow of traffic throughout the night and day, and although lower limit buy-ins are more common, you can find higher stakes. No Limit Texas Hold’em multi-table tournaments are the most popular by far, you can find the following on a limited basis:
On one midweek afternoon, more than 2,000 players were either actively participating in Hold’em ring games and multi-table (MTT) and sit-and-go (SNG) tournaments or were registered for tournaments that were slated to start within the hour. MTT buy-ins were fairly evenly distributed and ranged from 0.55-22 Sweeps Coins.
Omaha had a decent following, as well, with about 150 players seated in ring games for SNGs, all for predominantly lower stakes. Three MTTs were on the schedule for that evening, with another set for Sunday.
Crazy Pineapple‘s only slot on the schedule was an MTT set for later in the evening.
Global Poker draws a wide spectrum of players. The site’s large Facebook following tends to draw a significant number of recreational players who are either completely new to the game or novices, at best. On the flip side, since there aren’t many legal online poker sites in the US, many highly skilled players are drawn to Global, as well.
Global suggests that new players watch a few games and get to know the poker client and how it works before playing for real. Plus, even though the vast majority of players use Sweeps Coins, you can play most games for fun using Gold Coins. At the time of this review, about 600 players were using Gold Coins to play Hold’em and Omaha ring games, SNGs and MTTs.
Click the “Switch” button at the top of the page to move between Gold and Sweeps gameplay.
Global takes a flat 5% standard rake on both Sweeps Coins and Gold Coins tables, except for Jackpot SNG tournaments, which have a 6% rake built into the buy-in.
Global Poker offers Sit-and-Go, Jackpot Sit-and-Go, multi-table and Bounty tournaments, predominantly Hold’em, with buy-ins ranging from 2.20-218 Sweeps Coins (550-11,000 Gold Coins), in numerous formats.
Start-up times for Global Poker’s MTTs range from every 90 minutes in the early morning up to every 15 minutes in the evening.
The largest and most lucrative MTT takes place on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. CST. Global Poker’s Sunday Scrimmage has a 50,000 Sweeps Coins Guaranteed (Deep) prize with a buy-in of 218 Sweeps Coins.
Other recurring MTTs offering some of the highest Sweeps Coins payouts include the following:
If you don’t have the time for an MTT, Global offers plenty of SNGs and Jackpot SNGs tournaments. SNGs are usually six- or nine-player, turbo or hyper-turbo tournaments that rarely last longer than an hour.
Jackpot SNGs tournaments are three-player hyper-turbo Hold’em games with a randomly determined prize pool anywhere from two to 10,000 times your buy-in. Buy-ins range from a minimum of 100 Gold Coins and 0.5 Sweeps Coins on up to a maximum of 50,000 Gold Coins and 20 Sweeps Coins. You can play in up to four Jackpot SNGs at one time.
Jackpot SNGs are winner-takes-all unless your table draws the jackpot, in which case the prize pool will be split between first (75%), second (15%) and third (10%) place players. This means that if your table draws the jackpot prize pool with an 20 Sweeps Coins buy-in, you will be playing for a share of 200,000 Sweeps Coins or 5M Gold Coins.
Bounty tournaments use Hold’em rules except you get a prize (bounty) for each player you eliminate. Typically, the buy-in is split between the overall prize and bounty pools. By the time the final table is reached, it’s possible to have bounties larger than prize payouts.
Global Poker recently added several casino games, including a couple of slots and two variants of blackjack. To play, click on the “Casino Game” banner at the right side of the “Poker Lobby.”
It’s free to play in Global Poker’s poker rooms, but if you run out of Gold Coins and want to keep playing socially, you can buy more Gold Coins in packages that come bundled with free Sweeps Coins.
Click on the “Buy Coins” button in the upper-right corner of the page. Gold Coins packages come bundled with free Sweeps Coins at the following rates:
|Price||Gold Coins||Sweep Coins|
Global Poker accepts the following banking options for Gold Coin purchases:
You must go through the verification process (outlined above in the “Registration” section) to request a redemption. You will have to upload a copy of your bank statement if you haven’t already done so.
As long as you have at least 50 Sweeps Coins in your balance, click on the “Buy Coins” button in the upper-right corner of the screen, then choose the “Redeem Prize” tab. You can redeem cash prizes by direct bank transfer, Skrill or choose to accept a gift card instead. Gift cards will process faster than the other alternatives.
While Global will typically process redemptions within 48 hours, your bank may take an additional five business days before you see the money in your account.
