“The Temporary by American Place” recently announced that it plans to open for business in October. The aptly named building will be holding down the fort in Waukegan until the permanent American Place casino opens.
The Temporary will feature 50 table games and 1,000 slot machines along with a bar and a trio of restaurants. It will exist under a tent-like structure with a footprint of 70,000 square feet. Plus it’s built strong enough to handle the brutal Illinois winter weather.
The Temporary casino will also house a Circa Sportsbook with 36 televisions to watch the Bears, Cubs and Blackhawks. Through the partnership with Full House, Circa will be able to launch its mobile app in Illinois.
Although the structure will not be permanent it will serve casino enthusiasts while the real American Place is built nearby. American Place, with a price tag of around $400 million, will open sometime in 2025 and promises a new experience for Illinois casino goers.

- 1,640 slots

- 1,500-seat entertainment venue
In addition, Full House plans on building 20 ‘villa-style’ rooms called The Mansion. This luxury boutique lodging will range from 1500 to 2500 square feet each with access to a private pool.
There will be high-end restaurants at American Place with a casual restaurant near the Circa Sportsbook and the baccarat pit.
The second phase of American Place will take things a step further by constructing a 150-room traditional hotel.

Waukegan is the county seat of Lake County, Illinois, with a population of 87,000 as of the 2020 census. It is 24 miles north of Chicago and 54 miles south of Milwaukee. Two cities American Place and Temporary Place hope to draw from.
Temporary Place borders the Fountain Square Shopping center.
Full House completed construction on the foundation for Temporary Place earlier this month. The work is being overseen by Turner Construction.
The casino has already begun the hiring process. Temporary Place will require approximately 260 dealers to handle the clientele. It will be open 24-7.
