The Chicago Cubs will take on the Cincinnati Reds in the 2022 Field of Dreams game, according to NBC Sports Chicago. The game will likely take place on Thursday, Aug. 11 in Dyersville, Iowa.
Of course, the inaugural Field of Dreams game was a massive success. The White Sox beat the Yankees in a 9-8 thriller, with shortstop Tim Anderson cranking a walk-off homer into the cornfields. The FOX broadcast and overall aesthetics garnered rave reviews.
MLB is planning a sequel, and the other Chicago baseball team is involved this time around. And although we won’t have betting lines available for this game for quite a while, it will be legal to wager on the Cubs and the rest of the action in Iowa and Illinois online sportsbooks.
By that time, online registration should be allowed in the Land of Lincoln.
More mysterious, though, is what the Cubs roster will look like come August 2022. New top baseball executive Jed Hoyer sold off Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, Javier Baez and Craig Kimbrel at the trade deadline, and the Cubs have been abysmal ever since.
Manager David Ross, who let it slip that the Cubs would play in next year’s game before promptly walking it back, should return. Beyond him, the Cubs could have plenty of new faces in 2022.
Tickets for the game are not yet on sale. There are about 8,000 seats at the stadium.
DraftKings Sportsbook coming to Wrigley Field
While there is no retail sportsbook at the Field of Dreams site, there will eventually be a retail sportsbook at Wrigley Field.
In early August, the city of Chicago approved the two-story facility that will be located at Sheffield Avenue and Addison Street. In September 2020, DraftKings and the Cubs announced their partnership.
This will almost certainly be the first stadium retail sportsbook in Illinois. There may eventually be more, as the Sports Wagering Act allows for retail sportsbooks at stadiums.
But as of now, the Cubs are the only team with concrete plans to build one. The facility will be 22,350 square feet and feature a bar and restaurant.

2022 Cubs schedule
MLB recently released the 2022 schedule, and the Cubs face the Reds on Aug. 11. They have an off day on Friday, as the White Sox and Yankees did this year, before playing two more games vs. Cincinnati at Wrigley Field.
The Cubs will open the 2022 season on March 31 at Cincinnati. They will face the White Sox four times in May.
