A Roscoe Village convenience store sold a $1 million lottery ticket on Tuesday.

“A lot of people came in today just to purchase a Powerball ticket” owner Krunal Patel told WGN Chicago. “I was so happy for the customer who bought it. I hope it’s my regular customer who comes in here every day.”

The 7-Eleven is located on Belmont and Western. The store will receive a 1% bonus for selling the winning Mega Millions ticket.

The winning numbers were 12, 14, 26, 28 and 33.

To be eligible for the jackpot, you must purchase the $1 “megaplier.” We don’t know whether the $1 million winner purchased the megaplier or not, but if they did, the final number would have needed to be “9.”

Two people also won $10,000 in Tuesday’s drawing, while 71 people won $500.

In total, about 121,000 people won lottery money.

Much more to come from the Illinois Lottery

For the second time, both the Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots are more than $500 million, per the Illinois Lottery.

The Mega Millions jackpot is currently $750 million, while the Powerball jackpot is $640 million.

Combined, that’s almost $1.4 billion.

When prizes are that high, more tickets tend to be sold, so there should be plenty of interest around the state.

For every dollar, the Illinois Lottery says 25 cents go back to communities across the state, amounting to more than $21 billion since 1985.

The next Mega Millions draw is on Friday, while the next Powerball draw is Saturday.

You can enter up until 15 minutes before the drawing in both cases. Tickets can be purchased in-store or at IllinoisLottery.com.

There is also an Extra Shot Lotto drawing on Thursday night, where the grand prize is $3.8 million.

What do I do if I win the Powerball, etc?

Well, it depends on how much you’ve won.

If you’ve won the jackpot, call the Illinois Lottery’s main claims center at 217-524-5147 immediately. A representative should be able to help you with next steps.

If your prize is $600 or less, you can claim it at any lottery retailer.

If it’s somewhere in between, the Illinois Lottery encourages people to claim their prize via mail. You must first download and complete a claim packet.

This information can be mailed to:

  • Illinois Lottery Claims Department
  • PO Box 19080
  • Springfield, IL 62794-9912

You can also make an appointment at an Illinois Lottery claim center.

Normally, they accept walk-up traffic. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they now require that you book an appointment in order to do so.

The claiming steps are the same regardless of which game you’ve won.
