PlayIllinois‘ first review of the new Barstool Sportsbook app
I checked out the new Barstool Sportsbook app this morning as soon as it went live. I can attest firsthand to the quality of the changes delivered by its Canadian partner at theScore Bet.
The improvements are apparent from the get-go. The homepage offers a clean and polished look at today’s MLB games. Sorting through markets for an individual game is easier than ever. The new top navigation bar clearly lists categories such as lines, game props, player props, and specials.
The real kicker is how seamless it all feels. Tapping any of those categories loads the available bets at lightning speed.
The homepage is the real star of the show. The top menu has options for popular leagues and player-favorite choices. You can select from boosts, Barstool exclusives, and individual sports leagues.
Scrolling down showcases current promotions and upcoming games or matches. It feels like Barstool Sportsbook has finally arrived, ready to compete with the other big-name Illinois sportsbooks.
Upgrades months in the making
PENN Entertainment, which owns both Barstool Sportsbook and Toronto-based theScore Bet, has been hard at work for months pushing the redesigned experience forward.
Benjie Levy, head of Penn Interactive and president and COO, theScore, said:
“Deploying our technology infrastructure puts our experienced in-house team, who built the platform from the ground up, in full control of the end-to-end customer journey and all product development. With this proven technology powering a significantly enhanced Barstool Sportsbook, we are primed to deliver a world-class online sportsbook and casino experience to customers in the U.S.”
Better integration with theScore media app
Barstool’s redesign integrates with theScore media app like never before. Bettors and sports fans alike can sign into either app with the same login, and theScore now features additional crossover with Barstool Sportsbook. If you use theScore, you can build and track bets within the app. You still need to place your actual bets within the Barstool Sportsbook, but the ability to track and create a bet slip within theScore is a huge added bonus.
No action required from existing Barstool bettors
If you already use Barstool Sportsbook, you’re all set to use the new and improved app. Your account balance is 100% secure and will be available in the revamped experience. Pending wagers from before the migration will also be honored, carrying over to the redesigned app.

A needed boost for Barstool Illinois?
Illinois is one of the nation’s top markets for sports betting. In fact, the Land of Lincoln drew in the second-most handle and revenue in May 2023, following only New York. Tax revenue placed Illinois in third, following New York and Pennsylvania.
Barstool was a fairly distant seventh in terms of Illinois revenue and handle for May.
However, these upgrades could present a unique opportunity for the sportsbook to reinvigorate its presence in Illinois.
Paired with the brand recognition of Barstool and the deep integration with theScore’s media app, users have a lot to enjoy.
Time will tell whether it translates to a climb up the Illinois rankings.
