While that may sound dramatic, there’s not much for Bears fans to be excited about beyond their dynamic quarterback prospect. Chicago finished 8-8 last season and lost a few defensive players. The roster is aging, and head coach Matt Nagy hasn’t proven he can maximize his offensive talent to this point.
Fields has showed glimpses of hope, but has struggled overall. With Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase in the midst of an incredible season, he is now the clear frontrunner for Rookie of the Year.

Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence is the consensus favorite to take home Rookie of the Year at Illinois online sportsbooks. Fields is right behind him at every book except for PointsBet, where Jets QB Zach Wilson has shorter odds.
Considering Wilson will be the Jets’ immediate starter, the market is high on Fields. Though, of course, the mystery of when he’ll actually see playing time looms large.
The Bears have a difficult opening schedule stretch and the offensive line is in flux. Throwing Fields into the fire against the Rams, Bengals and Browns might not turn out well, and that seems to be the coaching staff’s logic at this point.
Week 4 at home against the Lions could be a natural spot to insert Fields. If that happens and he puts up big numbers the rest of the season, Fields will be a real contender to take home Rookie of the Year honors.
If Dalton plays well and the Bears are winning games, Fields may have to ride the pine for longer. But based on the betting markets, it doesn’t appear anyone has much faith that this will happen.
Justin Fields 2021 game log
Here are Fields’ stats from every game this season, including the preseason:
Preseason
- Week 1 vs. Dolphins: 14-for-20, 172 yards; five carries for 33 yards; two total TDs
- Week 2 vs. Bills: 9-for-19, 89 yards; four carries for 46 yards; no TDs
Given Fields’ rushing ability, he could be a dark horse fantasy football contributor as well.
How to bet on the Bears
Every Illinois sportsbook offers odds on the Monsters of the Midway.
Illinoisans can bet on everything from spreads, to moneylines, to over/unders to Fields props.
Same-game parlays are also an option at IL’s two most popular sportsbooks, FanDuel and DraftKings. So, for example, it will likely be possible to bet something like ‘Fields over X rushing yards and the Bears to win.’
Same-game parlays are becoming an extremely popular bet, and it’s easy to see their appeal. Though be warned: Sportsbooks rake in a high percentage of their profit from parlays.
BetRivers, meanwhile, is now the official sports betting partner of the Bears. Last year, PointsBet was the team’s official partner.
As a part of the partnership, BetRivers will offer Bears betting promotions all season long, and franchise icon Mike Ditka is now a brand ambassador.
If you already have one or more sports betting apps in Illinois, there is no shortage of options. But if you don’t, in-person registration is still required, meaning you must go to a retail sportsbook in order to sign up.
This will likely be the policy for the entire football season. If you’re in the Chicagoland area, BetRivers and PointsBet have the closest sign-up hubs.
